Pre 1913 Ottawa H/M

This page includes the earliest style engines made by the company. The first engines, beginning in January 1910,  were a single casting, included a foot under the cylinder, and used the medallion style governor weights with curved arms. There are two examples known to exist, only one of which has a visible serial number. That number does not logically fit into the serial number lists of the later hit and miss engines. Based on advertising, this style engine was available, at least in some sizes, until at least February 1913, when the earliest style and the later style were both advertised.

Advertisements found in November 1912 show the hopper, cylinder, and bed cast as separate pieces with a foot located under the front of the bed. The medallion style governor weights were still in use, but the arms on the weights were straight. Based on found advertisements, this style engine was made until sometime between February and August 1913.

Union Foundry and Machine began operations in September 1912. As far as is known, the Union Giant engines that were then manufactured were never available or advertised with the medallion style governor weights.
